I started making zines because it’s always been my dream to publish a book. Last year, it occurred to me that the only things between me and my dreams were: (1) the way I prioritized my time, and (2) setting my sights on projects that were at an achievable scale. Over the last year and change, I’ve written and home-published fiction, personal essays, critical analysis, and even an interactive workbook. I’ve had projects take way less and way more time than I was expecting. But through and through, it’s been so empowering to bring stories and words into a physical form.
This is how I got the courage to finally bring another one of my dreams to life - making a comic book! I’ve always loved comics and thought that I would never have the skill to bring one to life - then I had these two little buddies walk into my brain fully formed.
Croc and Bat are trans-masculine stoner boy best friends who live in Portland, Maine. Croc is a cool chill guy, and Bat is an emo bike dude. Their first adventure is finished now, and will hit the shelves in bookshops around Maine (ad hopefully further) in the next couple of weeks.
To say thank you to folks who have started paying to receive this newsletter, I’ve included a digital download of the first “episode” of Croc and Bat! The pdf is set up so that when you print the zine out, it’s a nice little booklet. The Cover of the zine is a separate PDF. Thanks for the support!
For folks who aren’t paid subscribers, here are some of the first pages of this new story. Croc and Bat forever!
